Michael draws on his impressive track record of effective representation in public liability and workers compensation claims and complementary WHS expertise to advise BBW Lawyers insurer, self-insured and employer clients.
Michael’s practice centres on workers compensation claims in NSW and the ACT and liability claims along the eastern seaboard. He has extensive experience representing and advising insurers and large self-insureds, and has been involved in several high profile and sensitive cases, including defending a recent high profile sexual harassment case for Australia’s largest retailer.
Prior to joining BBW Lawyers in 2009, Michael worked as in-house counsel for five years with Australia’s largest private employer in the retail industry. This background imbues his claims work with special insights from a large employer perspective and is of direct benefit to all clients.
Relevant Highlights
- indicative of Michael’s strategic approach to add value was his spearheading of a special costs saving project. He recommended a large self-insured retailer client implement a settlement project for their public liability portfolio which had numerous long tail claims.
- Michael and the BBW Lawyers team systematically reviewed and identified files (both litigated and unlitigated) suitable for early resolution by the attendance at informal settlement conferences across NSW.
- he took steps to maximise the client’s internal resources and all parties’ time by arranging multiple conferences with reoccurring plaintiff firms. The project reviewed 200 files and resulted in settlement of over 75 claims, ultimately resulting in a significant cost saving to our client (in both claims and legal costs). The project also impacted positively on actuarial estimates.
- the estimated long term saving achieved was over $1 million.
