David joined BBW Lawyers in April 2011 as a senior solicitor after early career experience advising plaintiffs/applicants in personal injury matters. He was heavily involved in workers compensation matters and also developed extensive experience in complex litigation and became well-versed in the conduct of alternative dispute resolution methods and settlement negotiations.
With his wealth of experience in the workers compensation jurisdiction, David now provides expert and timely advice to insurers and employers, aimed at minimising their statutory exposure. He is trusted with the defence of high-profile damages claims, a testament to his skills in risk management.
David has developed a specialised knowledge of the 2012 and 2015 workers compensation amendments, particularly the interplay between litigated claims and work capacity decisions. He advises insurers and employers on how to finalise their liability by adopting a carefully tailored approach to claims management.
David recently headed up a claims strategy conference for a large employer and self-insurer. The client had several long-term workers compensation claims for employees who were proving to be troublesome.
By working very closely with BBW Lawyers employment law team, David implemented a multi-pronged strategy which enabled the client to close several claims and address employment issues without increasing the risk of litigation. By securing a saving on its future liabilities, the employer was able to divert funds into meaningful projects.
